Clearview Cardigan

Description

The Clearview Cardigan is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you’ll receive a credit for a custom version of Clearview and instructions on how to create it.

Clearview is a versatile, classic cardigan with an A-line shape, clean texture, and buttons on the top of the garment only. It is worked in pieces from the bottom up, and is shown with 3/4 sleeves and a “long” sweater length (though CustomFit will make it for you in any sleeve and sweater length you like as well as other silhouettes and constructions.)

It features a flattering scoop neckline, broken 1×1 rib trim, and an easy-to-work Windowpane knit/purl texture. One note on the stitch patterning: There are 8 stitches in each repeat, which is fairly high – so I have not restricted CustomFit’s stitch counts to be exact multiples. This means you’ll get a sweater that fits great, but you may have to work partial stitch repeats on the sides of your pieces.

Sizing

The Clearview Cardigan is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Amy in the set-in sleeve construction, with a “women’s average fit” and an a-line silhouette. The design is also available with the modified drop-shoulder construction, and other fits and silhouettes.

The orange version pictured is a “Child’s Relaxed Fit”, and is shown on Brenna Shae in Berroco Yarn’s worsted weight Vintage.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Clearview Cardigan pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. This design looks great at any gauge under an aran weight.

Materials

I used Solitude Wool’s lovely Coopworth sport yarn for this sample, in the color “Bora Bora”. Coopworth is a Longwool breed that’s a cross between Romney and Border Leicester. The wool has a beautiful, fuzzy sheen and almost an ethereal quality to the stitches. I found it light, warm, and just beautiful in the knit-purl textures of Clearview. I enthusiastically recommend it for this design.

To make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 4 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7) hanks of the Coopworth Sport for this design.

For other yarns, CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.

Construction

The Clearview Cardigan is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in sleeves or modified drop-shoulder sleeves.
