Tramontane

$9.99

Tramontane is part of my “CustomFit Basics” collection – a series of simple silhouettes with basic trims designed to work well in any yarn, for anybody. And if there’s anything more classic and basic than a simple crew-neck pullover, I don’t know what it is!

Tramontane patterns can be made in any gauge you like, for any person you like, in any silhouette or construction you like. It also makes a great basic pattern to trick up a bit with an allover stitch pattern, if that’s the kind of knitter you are. I worked this version of Tramontane in an exceptional woolenspun yarn from the historic, exceptional folks at Harrisville Designs, and I love the way the incredibly subtle color blending looks with this classic silhouette as a canvas.

Please note that Tramontane is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you’ll receive a credit for a custom version of Tramontane and instructions on how to create it.

The sweater has 1×1 ribbed trim everywhere, with long set-in sleeves and an average sweater length.

Sizing

Tramontane is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Jackie in a “women’s average fit” with a straight silhouette and set-in sleeves. It’s available in all other constructions, fits, and silhouettes for men, women, and children.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Tramontane pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. This design works well at any gauge.

Materials

I used Harrisville WATERshed, in the color “Granite”, for this design.
WATERshed’s lightness and body contribute to an incredibly wearable finished product, and I highly recommend it for this sweater.

To make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 7 (8, 9, 10, 10, 11, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) hanks for this design.

For other yarns, CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.

Construction

Tramontane is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in or modified drop-shoulder sleeves.
