Oh, for the love of all that’s holy…

I feel like the biggest dork in the world.

So this is the back of Torgeir, from Elsbeth Lavold’s Viking Knits 1. Cute sweater, and I’m knitting it in the 2 year old size. At least, I will be when I can stop swearing at myself long enough to rip it out. See the cables along the side, there? They’re supposed to be 8-row cables. And the very first one, down at the very bottom there, is. But for the rest, I somehow managed to convince myself they were a 10-row repeat. This despite thinking they looked too long for the entirety of the back. Gotta love it.

I realized this when I looked at the chart again as I started the front. So now, the front will be the back, the back will be ripped out, and I’ll get right on all of that once I’ve cast on a little palate cleanser. I was thinking that I should wind up my Sundara silk lace and either do Icarus or the Cleopatra Wrap with it as a palate cleanser. Any votes?

  1. Does it *need* to be an 8 row repeat? Maybe the 10 row repeat could be a design choice….

  2. I had the same question – can’t it just be a 10-repeat? Love the colour!

I gave you an award on my blog – check it out!

  3. Icarus as a palate cleanser? You are an intrepid knitter…

  4. Design element! Design element! It’s not a mistake if you do the front like that too!

As for the palate cleanser, I am newly enamored with triangular shawls, so I’d vote Icarus.

  5. “palate cleanser” – hee hee! What a great use for that phrase!

  6. At least you’re brave to notice the mistake, curse a bit, and then proceed to rip and redo. Heck, you go the next mile and cleanse your palete with a lace shawl. Thats beyond brave and venturing into fearless. I’ll cast my vote for Icarus but both are gorgeous.

  7. I’d go with the design element voters. 🙂 Or, if you are really bothered by the irregularity in the cables, rip out the bottom and redo that with the 10 row cable.

If you’re bothered by the mistake itself, well… I guess that means ripping it out.

I’d go with one of the easier fixes myself.

  8. Dammit!

I vote for cleopatra wrap as the palate cleanser.

  9. Oh no, what a pain. Never mind, go for Icarus!

  10. Oh no! I hope it doesn’t take too long to get back to where you were. Icarus or Cleo – both lovely!

  11. Uff da, how unfortunate! I’d classify this under the “only a knitter would know” category, and even with that in mind I wouldn’t have necessarily noticed! I think it looks great with the 10 row repeat, but on the other hand, I’m a firm supporter of fixing if you KNOW it’s going to drive you crazy whenever you see it. Good luck with whatever you decide!

  12. Doh! Happens to the best of us. I think either shawl would be a lovely change from cables. 🙂

  13. Design element! I think Cleopatra, since it’s so shiny and new.

  14. I vote for the Cleopatra Wrap as the palate cleanser (great choice of words btw). Such a pretty blue in the sweater. It will be a beautiful sweater.

  15. That’s a gorgeous blue!
And I vote for Cleopatra because that’s what I’m planning to do with the exact same yarn.

  16. Heh! I do things like that all the time!
Either Icarus or the Cleopatra wrap would be beautiful…

  17. Cleopatra is my vote. Sorry about the sweater mishap…but it looks BEAUTIFUL.
