Rhinebeck, how I love thee.

Weekend-long festivals defy description. Words can never capture how refreshing and rejuvenating a weekend of simply immersing oneself in fiber and fiber-lovers is. Worse, I didn’t take a single picture this year that I could share with you instead.

I did wear Ayana on Saturday, and a new cardigan I’m calling Seamair on Sunday (reveal soon!), and got lots of lovely compliments on both (which always makes my day). I saw lots of gorgeous knitwear, the weather was perfect, and I had lots of opportunity to chat with wonderful friends I don’t get to see that often. I probably missed more people than I met up with.

I did some knitting, starting two new designs without once thinking of Vestvember. Vestvember, in time for which I hoped (hope?) to have a vest pattern written up. Guess I should get on that.

I did not buy any new yarn. In addition to my overflowing stash, I am saving my pennies for a laptop that will let me do my design work without necessarily kicking the husband off of our home’s only computer. Every time I crossed paths with some cashmere, I only had to think about how wonderful it will be when we can both use a computer at the same time.

(Well, in the interest of full disclosure, the Spirit Trail Fiberworks booth required some seriously stern admonitions before I avoided dropping $200 on a sweater’s worth of cashmere-merino-silk blend. Ahem.)

And like most folks, I’ve felt a little aimless and lost this week. Dreaming of a chance to spend more time with such wonderful people, discussing one of my very favorite things to do. ‘Till next year, Rhinebeck! You were awesome.

  1. It really WAS awesome. I’m glad you had a good time. THere is just something about that immersion. It was a tough re-entry.

  2. Re-entry is hard after such a wonderful weekend. It was wonderful to see you and your sweaters!

  3. This is the first year when I didn’t have a slump after the festival euphoria. I can’t quite explain why – maybe I’m still enjoying being there.

Also, I totally lost it in the Spirit Trail booth. Not a sweater’s worth, but way more yarn than I should have bought. No regrets, though.

  4. Ayana is a gorgeous sweater! It was so great to see you wearing it at the Ravelry party.

I’ve been having a tough time with re-entry this week, too. It’s so hard.

  5. I was hoping to get to meet you too… SO FUN the Rhinebeck adventure! Maybe next year : )!

  6. Good for you! I loved that yarn at ST! Can’t wait to see what it becomes!

  7. Good on you for the self-control! It was lovely to see you again!

  8. Self control was one of the primary reasons I didn’t go. 🙂 I have none (Exhibit 1.1: my stash). I can’t wait to see the new design!

  9. Glad you had a good time, and amazed that you bought NOTHING! I never manage that when I go to Stitches.

  10. sigh…i want to go back to rhinebeck! i didn’t buy any yarn either. i hope you get your new computer soon!

  11. It was good to run into you. I pretty much doubled my stash at Rhinebeck, but then I have the world tiniest stash ever. 😉

  12. What monumental self control! Worth it for a comp though. Wish I could have gone. Glad you had fun.

  13. Sometimes I stop to think about what it is that makes knitting so fascinating… Maybe our current way of living (stressful) and the creativity it brings to some of us (like me) is part of the reason… I hope I’ll go to Rhinebeck one day and a friend in our knitting group said it was very impressive to see all the knitwear that people are wearing. I’d love to see that!
