Classes and sweaters and springtime, oh my!

As I head into my last marathon month, I’m trying to take time to appreciate the little things. Like finding perfect buttons in the vintage section of my button stash.

(I love a good button stash. So tiny! So exquisite!)

And the classes I have throughout April! Classes continue to be one of my favorite things to do. Last weekend I flew to Pittsburgh for a 6-hour class with the Three Rivers Knitting Guild. I adore 6-hour classes. There’s so much time for discussion! For trying things on! For getting everyone’s individual questions explored until we’re all sure it makes sense. They’re truly luxurious.

I’m teaching another 6-hour class here in the Boston area, next weekend on April 14. It’s at the Hub Mills Yarn Store in Billerica, and they wrote yesterday saying they still have a few spots left. After a busy April, I’m taking the summer for some much-needed R&R, so this is the only remaining 6-hour class until fall.

Spring has sprung here in Boston, but I remain hopeful that there will be time to squeak in one self-pub pattern before the dog days of summer. Can I ask your opinion, dear readers? Do you like summer knits? Or if a pattern isn’t ready until May, should I wait until fall?

  1. I’m debating with myself on that issue right now as well. I’m thinking that summer is the perfect time to knit a brand new sweater for the fall, but I’m not sure that other knitters feel the same 🙂

  2. i like summer knits- so hard to find flattering things for warm weather wear. can’t wait to see it!

  3. Small – tiny, tiny summer knits. But not heavy cotton, or stuff that will get pilly soon.

Of course, since I’m behind, what am I actually going to have a lapfull of? A wool sweater in worsted weight. Knit in the round, with a yoke, so all of it will be there at the same time.

But you asked what I liked, not what I was planning…

  4. […] Amy Herzog has a spot or two open in the Boston area for her sweater fitting workshop. […]

  5. I love summer knits!

  6. Ohh what’s the pattern in the picture???

It looks awesome, I’d love to know what it does further up

  7. Ah, I don’t know if it’s occurred to you, but if your patterns are on-line, there are plenty of people NOT heading into summer that like to knit…In my part of the world, May is getting chilly…bring on MORE knitting!

  8. I like summer knits and all those lovely light cotton yarns.

  9. Cute buttons on a fab sneak peek of a sweater! I noticed you’re teaching a class one town over from me Saturday May 5th. A misprint or for reals? Publish when you think it’s right for you. I think most will say bring it on for summer!

  10. I almost ALWAYS find myself finishing up wool sweaters in July and August — I spend enough of the day inside with the air conditioning that it doesn’t bother me.

    Love the sneak peek! 🙂

  11. I love summer knits!

  12. I love summer knits but hate putting time in to knitting a cotton sweater that just droops and bags after a few washings. Any tips you can give for knitting a summer top that will look good after several wearings would be greatly appreciated.

  13. I loved the Fit to Flatter workshop! Thank you so much for comming to Pittsburgh for this. I can’t wait to try out some the of techniques you mentioned and I am really looking forward to the release of your book to use as a refence guide.

  14. Dear Amy, is there any way you could make a video-class we can buy as download? I am asking because after reading your articles and hearing from other people about your classes, really wish I could take one. Unfortunately I live too far… Anyway – it is something you could think about. Thank you, a lot!

  15. I vote for summer knits too!
