Site Update and Pattern Release: Fallside

Happy spring, everyone!

At least, that’s how I felt when I started writing this post yesterday – it was warm and sunny, and my wee crocucses and tiny hyacinth had popped their noses up from underground. Today, sleet. Ah, New England in March. Spring or not, I have a couple of things to share today – a CustomFit udpate and a new sweater for whatever weather you’re experiencing today.

CustomFit Updates

I had some fun last week moving CustomFit to the amyherzogdesigns.com domain. CustomFit’s new URL is:

https://customfit.amyherzogdesigns.com

Please update your link if you have the site bookmarked! I’m slowly integrating the two sites more fully, and making some long-overdue changes at the same time. Last weekend I updated my About page, and added recent social media posts in the sidebar on these blog pages, and I’m ridiculously excited about both.

I’ve moved email addresses at the same time, so if you need help please drop a note to [email protected]. (All of the old email addresses and URLs still forward, so you shouldn’t get lost – but if you have any trouble please let me know!)

It feels so good to finally have everything under one happy roof, and I look forward to blending them more fully.

New Pattern: Fallside!

To celebrate the new digs, I have a new pattern for you as well: Fallside.

Click here to make your own.

It’s no secret that Indigodragonfly Chameleon is one of my favorite sweater yarns. (Honestly, I’m the first to admit that I’m obsessed.) I joined one of the Indigodragonfly clubs last year, and the Chameleon shipment came in the most perfect purple for Morgan. I knew I had to do something special.

I’d been toying with an asymmetrical-collar idea for awhile, and decided to run with it for this yarn. Morgan is into oversized, funky tops she can layer over her favorite jeans. She’s also a tween, so nothing too fussy! I gave her a straight silhouette with simple ribbing details and a cozy tunic length. She picked the buttons, and was soon rocking out to the Hamilton soundtrack while I snapped some photos:

(This is her ticking off the Revolutionaries’ disadvantages in “Right Hand Man”, if you’re curious.)

Like all CustomFit patterns, I recommend that you work Fallside from the bottom up in pieces with set-in sleeves; the asymmetrical collar and buttons are picked up and added after seaming. The collar can be worn open or closed, and looks great either way:

Since I designed Fallside directly within CustomFit, you can change the length of the sleeve and the sweater itself based on what you like to wear – and the pattern will be written for your exact gauge and measurements.

That makes estimating yardage pretty tricky! If you’re using the Chameleon, and getting my favored gauge of 7.5 stitches and 10 rows per inch, you’ll need approximately 4 (4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8) hanks of Chameleon for a standard size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81, 86, 91, 97, 102, 107, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152) cm tunic-length sweater. (If you’re using anything else, or getting a different gauge, I strongly recommend Hannah Fettig’s excellent app Stashbot for all yardage estimates.)

I’m already making another for myself, and I hope you’ll join me and knit one for yourself, too! You can get started on your own pattern right here on CustomFit.
