Knitting Round-up and Check-in

Happy Friday, lovely knitters!

Things are starting to settle down (a teeny bit) after last week’s flurry of site updating and new collection. (And, uh, the subsequent flurry this week of site updates.) Thank you all so much for your kind words and compliments both on the site and the new designs – I feel like they’ve both been in the works forever, it feels really good to be moving forward again.

As we head into a holiday weekend for many, I thought it would be a nice time to take a break from all the tech talk, and check in on the Winter/Spring KAL. I don’t think I’ve shared anything about what I’ve been knitting for ages!

So let’s take a stroll through what’s been on my needles – will you share what’s on yours, as well?

Finished with Triumph and Glory

Aside from the collection, I’ve finished a handful of different things so far this year:

The two pictures on the left are basic raglan sweaters that I’m really excited to share with you. I originally made the samples for the “Make your own custom raglan” class I taught at Vogue Knitting Live, Madrona, and Vogue Destinations this spring. But my students loved the sweaters so much that I decided to write them up – so look for these soon!

I made the green one from Indigodragonfly DK Matter, and the brown one from Jill Draper Makes Stuff Rockwell. They’ve both been in heavy rotation this winter – classic, comfortable, warm sweaters that are easy to slip on. Here’s me in the cardigan a couple of days ago:

(Can we talk about how much I’m ready for spring weather? How about you?)

The next picture is another sample of The Bayberry Cowl, this time worked up in Crave Yarns Caravan and in the largest circumference and height.

I don’t really have words for how utterly luscious this is in a larger size. Not that there’s anything wrong with a one-hank, two-day project mind you! But I’ve been cuddling this piece as a consolation prize that the full collection has moved on to become a trunk show.

Finally, at the start of the year I knit up a quick prototype for a new idea.

There are some things I’ll change, but even so I’ve worn this constantly. I’ve worn it to teach, I wore it last Saturday to Stitches United, I wear it when I’m having a tough day. Wearing this sweater is like having secret pajamas. (Hat tip to the Imagined Landscapes podcast team for that phrase).

Still Working on It

Of course, my needles always have at least a few things going that aren’t quite ready yet. Right now, I’m still plugging away on:

This is a version of Firth that I started in my main Habu squeeze, N80 wrapped merino 4p, back in October. (I KNOW.) I’ve finished the back and am now working on the front…

…actually right now I’m ripping the front, because while I was at Madrona I mindlessly knit too far, and then stuffed it in a time-out project bag until I could face it. C’est la vie. I feel like the sleeves should move quickly, after this saga?

I also have another Cedar Ledge Cardigan sample on the needles, this time in my size:

This one, I think I’m going to run on my knitting machine after I get the trims done. There’s not enough time in the day to hand knit everything, though I’ll admit I enjoy hand-knitting more.

And finally, something new:

Which I won’t say more about now, except that it is related to some very large boxes that have shown up in my office recently:

Exciting times, for sure!

Overall, I’m feeling pretty good about the amount of knitting I’ve been able to manage even through the site updates and book editing. Though I did just go back and check the opening message of the Winter/Spring KAL thread on Ravelry, and I haven’t touched either of the yarns I intended to use. (I’d better get on that!)

What’s been on your needles lately?

  1. Cannot wait for those secret pajamas to become a pattern… there were several of us at Vogue Berkshires that were lusting over that one.. (along with several others)!

  2. Always more knitting than time. Verglas is in timeout before I rip out the back-too long. Need to repurpose a linen blend that was going to be a tank, but I am not in love with. Crazy Stripes T is a fun way to play with color and short rows. Then there is always a cowl, hat, or mittens on the needles.

  3. I have finished some random small projects and keep coming back to my first sweater. I have two sleeves and the back and am only a few rows shy of the neck/armhole shaping on the front! Wish me luck! Of course it will probably be to warm to wear it by the time I am finished. I still need to fit in a baby sweater for a young woman that grew up with my daughter that is expecting her first child the end of May. I am so excited for her!

  5. So far this year I made On A Whim and am working on the left front panel of Cushman, both for me. I’m also well into my second Scatterby sock and can’t wait to be able to wear them! And I made my granddaughter an Easter dress and basket. Oh, and I made myself a cowl (my first) out of a luxurious sugar cane yarn. After this little mental review I’m feeling much more productive than I realized. : )
