Burnish

$12.50

Crew-neck cardigans with a bit of stitch patterning are wardrobe staples for me – they go with everything, are comfortable to wear, and fun to knit as well. Burnish adds a bit of interest to a basic silhouette with rows of eyelet strips on the fronts and sleeves. It's incredibly easy to wear, and available in all four of CustomFit's silhouettes.

I've shown Burnish here in a bulky gauge – but it would work equally well in any gauge from sport through bulky. It's trimmed with twisted 1×1 ribbing, and makes a great first foray into sweaters with lace. Burnish is worked in pieces from the bottom up with set-in sleeves.

Please note that Burnish is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you'll receive a credit for a custom version of Burnish and instructions on how to create it.

Sizing

Burnish is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Naomi in an “hourglass average fit” with an hourglass silhouette, but is available with a-line, tapered, and straight silhouettes, and other fits as well.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Burnish pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. Any gauge from sport through bulky will work well for this design. (Although please note that the number of eyelets you get will change with different weights! They’ll match the width of the neck.)

Materials

I used Spirit Trail Fiberworks Vesta, which has now been discontinued, for the sample shown here. Her worsted-weight Zalti would make an excellent substitute.

To make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 3 (3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6) hanks of Zalti.

Construction

Burnish is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in sleeves.
