Copper Mountain

$12.50

The V-neck cardigan is a classic silhouette, and Copper Mountain’s all-over cable stitch pattern elevates the classic to new heights. Shown worked straight to the armholes with no shaping, Copper Mountain is a great option for men, women, and kids. It looks great in a variety of gauges and textures of yarn. Please be sure to swatch in the shadow cable stitch pattern for accurate gauge.

By default, Copper Mountain will use your average sweater and long sleeve lengths, and features a V neckline that begins 1.5” (4 cm) below your armhole shaping. Simple 2×2 ribbing trims all edges. It’s shown in a set-in construction and straight silhouette, but is also available in tapered and a-line silhouettes and the modified drop shoulder construction.

Please note that Copper Mountain is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you’ll receive a credit for a custom version of Copper Mountain and instructions on how to create it.

The V-neck cardigan is a classic silhouette, and Copper Mountain’s all-over cable stitch pattern elevates the classic to new heights. Worked straight to the armholes with no shaping by default, Copper Mountain is a great option for men, women, and kids. It looks great in a variety of gauges and textures of yarn. By default, Copper Mountain will use your average sweater and long sleeve lengths, and features a V neckline that begins 1.5” (4 cm) below your armhole shaping. Simple 2×2 ribbing trims all edges. It’s shown in a straight silhouette and set-in sleeve construction, but is also available in tapered and a-line silhouettes and the drop shoulder construction. Please note that for those silhouettes, you will be required to work shaping in the cable pattern.

Sizing

Copper Mountain is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Amy in a “women’s average fit” with a straight silhouette, but is available with a-line and tapered silhouettes and other fits as well, for men, women, and kids. It’s also available in both set-in sleeve and modified drop-shoulder constructions.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Copper Mountain pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. Anything lighter in weight than an aran should work well for this design. Please swatch in the shadow cable stitch pattern for accurate gauge.

Materials

I prefer the look of a slightly-fuzzy, slightly-heathered yarn for this cable pattern, and really appreciate the bit of drape alpaca gives to fabric. So I strongly recommend Berroco Ultra Alpaca, the yarn used in this sample, for your Copper Mountain. I’m wearing the color “Lobster Mix”, #6297, but there are lots of great heathered colors in this yarn so be creative!

For stability, I liked the Shadow Cable stitch pattern at a gauge of 24 stitches and 28 rows to 4” (10 cm) in Ultra Alpaca.At that gauge, to make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 5 (5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 10, 11) hanks of Ultra Alpaca for this design.

For other yarns, CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.

Construction

Copper Mountain is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in sleeves or modified drop-shoulder sleeves.
