Coracle

$12.50

I knit Coracle for my spring-summer KAL in 2014, and represents the kind of sweaters I most like to wear in the warmer months – light, drapey, and comfortably relaxed. Its 3/4 sleeves, wide neckline, and mid-hip length all work gloriously with the front's all-over mesh pattern to create a lighter-than-air, ultra-comfortable “sweatshirt” sweater.

The sample was worked in Rowan's TrueSilk yarn, a 100% silk chainette construction yarn that has glorious drape and has now been discontinued. There are plenty of seams in this sweater to counteract the silk's drape and the sweater's relaxed fit – the result is stunning. This sweater includes waist shaping worked on the back only, which relaxes the garment's fit even more and allows for a smooth, unbroken lace front. Any yarn with a decent silk content would make a great substitute.

Coracle is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you'll receive a credit for a custom version of Coracle and instructions on how to create it.

Please swatch in both Stockinette and Open Mesh Lace, ensuring your gauge is consistent across the two stitch patterns. Adjust needles for the lace pattern if necessary to obtain the same gauge.

Sizing

Coracle is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Amy in an “hourglass relaxed fit” with an hourglass silhouette (back waist shaping only), but is available with straight, tapered, and a-line silhouettes (and other fits) as well.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Coracle pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. I recommend something in fingering – light worsted range for this design.

Please swatch in both Stockinette and Open Mesh Lace, ensuring your gauge is consistent across the two stitch patterns. Adjust needles for the lace pattern if necessary to obtain the same gauge.

Materials

For the sample shown here, I used Rowan’s TrueSilk yarn, now discontinued. I recommend a yarn with a nice drape and crisp stitch definition to replicate this look.

Construction

Coracle is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in sleeves.
