Dockside Cardigan

$12.50

The Dockside Cardigan is part of my retreat collection for the 2018 make. wear. love. fall sweater retreat. Each retreat, I make a mini-collection of sweaters in yarns from our vendors, loosely focused around a theme. This year, the theme was “nurturing”;: I wanted to create winter-worthy sweaters that would envelop us in warmth and love.

I worked up the Dockside Cardigan in our vendor The Fibre Company's soft, tweedy Arranmore yarn – a delightful blend of wool, cashmere, and silk available in tons of sophisticated colors. I knew that with such a luscious, tweedy yarn I'd need a fairly simple design. So I kept things classic with a collared cardigan that features a diagonally-diminishing ribbing pattern on the fronts and sleeves.

Dockside can be made in any of CustomFit's silhouettes, and would look great in the range of Fibre Company yarns. It's shown here on Christy in a women's relaxed fit.

Sizing

The Dockside Cardigan is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Christy in a women’s relaxed fit and a straight silhouette.

Dockside is also available in hourglass, a-line, and tapered silhouettes, and fits for men, women, and children.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Dockside pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. Any weight yarn will work well with this design, and you should swatch in Stockinette stitch.

Materials

I used The Fibre Company Arranmore, in the color “Odhram”, for this design. I liked the Arranmore at a gauge of 16 stitches and 24 rows to 4” (10 cm), which I got using US 8 (5 mm) needles. I think Dockside would also look spectacular in The Fibre Co.’s Arranmore Light, and their new wool Lore.

At the same gauge, you’ll need approximately 5 (5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8) hanks of Arranmore for a straight-sided cardigan that’s roughly 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm in the fullest part of the bust.

If you’re *not* using Arranmore, or you’re getting a different gauge, I strongly recommend the app Stashbot by Hannah Fettig for yardage estimations.

Construction

The Dockside Cardigan is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in sleeves.
