Cardigans are essential wardrobe pieces for most of us – comfortable, classic, and versatile. Drumlin’s design started when Clara Parkes and I talked about what makes a quintessential cardigan: It has to be a great indoor garment, but also function as a jacket when the weather is right. It needs pockets. It should be comfortable, but not too baggy. Shaped, but not too tight. Workable with lots of different kinds of shirts underneath.

This one has you covered, looks great in just about any non-drapey yarn, at whatever gauge you like. Even better, it’s available in all of CustomFit’s silhouettes, sleeve constructions, sweater and sleeve lengths, and fits.

Sizing

The Drumlin Cardigan is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Amy with set-in sleeves, an “hourglass average fit”, hourglass silhouette, average length and long sleeves. It’s also available in all of CustomFit’s silhouette, construction, and length options for men, women, and children.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Drumlin pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. This design was originally worked in a sport-weight wool, but will look great at any gauge.

Materials

I used Clara Parkes’ lovely Cormo 2.0 in the color “Honey” for this design, now sold out. Any traditional, worsted-spun wool will make a great substitute.

CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.

Construction

Drumlin is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in or modified drop shoulder sleeves.
