Mine Hill Cardigan

$12.50

Mine Hill is one of my favorite kinds of sweater – easy to throw on and off, with a bit of stitch patterning to keep things interesting… …and POCKETS. I’ve made mine with elbow set-in sleeves and a longer length, out of an incredibly luxurious yarn. But you can make yours in whatever construction, silhouette, length, and fabric you like thanks to CustomFit.

The textured trim on the pockets and cardigan opening provide Mine Hill with nice vertical lines, and break up the variegation in a tonal or shaded-solid yarn nicely. The design is a perfect match for the luscious silk-wool blends from Spirit Trail Fiberworks, and is shown here in the DK-weight Birte.

The Mine Hill Cardigan is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you’ll receive a credit for a custom version of Mine Hill and instructions on how to create it.

Sizing

Mine Hill Cardigan is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Amy with set-in sleeves, in an “hourglass average fit” with an hourglass silhouette, but is available with straight, a-line, and tapered silhouettes, and a variety of fits, as well as the modified drop shoulder construction.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Mine Hill pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. This design works well in nearly any gauge.

Materials

I used Spirit Trail Fiberworks Birte, a lovely wool-silk blend, for this design. Jen’s Sunna and Verdande yarns are made of the same wool-silk mix, and would both make lovely substitutes.

To make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately:

  • 4 (4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7) hanks of Sunna,
  • 3 (3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 7, 8) hanks of Birte, or
  • 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 8, 8) hanks of Verdande.

For other yarns, CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.

Construction

Mine Hill is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in or modified drop-shoulder sleeves.
