Quagga Pullover

$12.50

The Quagga pullover is named after a subspecies of plains zebras that were hunted to extinction by colonialists. Existing specimens show that they had a brown coloured rear, with striping patterns towards the front of their body and up their neck. Some of the specimens have much lighter coloured legs, which is what inspired the name for this sweater.

Description

The Quagga Pullover is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit pattern generator. Upon purchase, you’ll receive a credit for a custom version of the Quagga Pullover on your CustomFit patterns page and instructions on how to create it.

The pattern has a scoop neck, which starts above the armhole shaping. It has a stripe pattern that goes up to just below the armholes, contrast neckline and contrast sleeves. It’s a great pattern for when you don’t have enough of one colour for a whole sweater.

Sizing

Quagga is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here with set-in sleeves and an hourglass silhouette in a women’s average fit.

Quagga is also available in the drop shoulder construction and in hourglass, straight, and tapered silhouettes, and fits for men, women, and children.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Quagga pattern will be written to your exact gauge, whatever it may be. The weight of the yarn will affect the width of the stripes, so you should swatch in a two row stripes in stockinette stitch to see if you like the stripes.

Materials

The sample is knit in Indigodragonfly MerGoat Sport [223 m/250 yds per 115 gram skein] (80% superwash merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon) in Ernnui and Bordet, The Pro-Nihilist Muppets (Dark Purple) and Tapenodd, Flavor Flavine Edition (Green)

At this gauge, to make an average fit, hourglass sweater as shown here, a standard size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm will use approximately 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4) hanks. (A-line and longer sweaters will use more yarn! Straight-sided and shorter sweaters will use less yarn!)

For other yarns, CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.

Construction

Quagga is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in sleeves or modified drop shoulder sleeves.
