Seguin

$12.50

I grew up on the water with my grandpa and uncles, and will go out on any kind of boat, any time. But if I get to choose, there’s no lovelier place in the world than Seguin Island on a brisk summer day. Located offshore in Midcoast Maine, Seguin is home to Maine’s tallest active light station and can be visited either by ferry/charter, or by twisting the arm of one’s nearest uncle, depending. Even in summertime, the waters off the coast of Maine can be chilly – so a sweater is always advised.

This kicky pullover is simple to knit but engaging too, thanks to the thin stripes that adorn the sweater’s body. A simple scoop neck, 1×1 ribbed trim, and contrast-color hem and sleeve cuffs complete a look that’s unfussy and timeless. I thoroughly recommend it for all boating excursions and any time the air warrants just a bit of warmth. It’s available in all of CustomFit’s silhouettes, constructions, lengths, and fits.

Please note that Seguin is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you’ll receive a credit for a custom version of Seguin and instructions on how to create it.

Sizing

Seguin is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Amy in an “hourglass close fit” with an hourglass silhouette and set-in sleeves, but is available with CustomFit’s other constructions, silhouettes and fits as well.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Seguin pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be.

Seguin will look great in any gauge, but please note that you’ll need two different colors! Of your total yarn quantity, about 1/3 of it should be in the CC.

Materials

I used Blue Sky Alpacas Royal (288 yds/263 m per 100 g hank; 100% royal alpaca), which lives up to its name, for this design. It’s shown here in MC #708 sea glass and CC #710 concord.

For a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 3 (3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6) hanks of MC and 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3) hanks of CC.

For other yarns, CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.

Construction

Seguin is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in or modified drop-shoulder sleeves.
