Stonington is a classic cardigan shape with a quintessentially fall look. It is both extremely simple to knit and has just enough detail to produce a timeless, wearable sweater. The lines evoked by the 2×2 ribbed sleeves and ribbing detail on the cardigan’s fronts allow it to be dressed up, and the earthy tweedy wool makes the sweater equally as comfortable with an old pair of jeans.
It is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with ribbed trims and a deep V neckline. The sleeves are worked entirely in 2×2 ribbing, and one repeat of ribbing is carried up the cardigan fronts. The button band is picked up after seaming and also worked in 2×2 ribbing. As written, the cardigan features a low-hip length and long sleeves – though you can change both as you customize your pattern.
Please note that the Stonington cardigan is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you'll receive a credit for a custom version of Stonington and instructions on how to create it.

Stonington is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Amy in an “hourglass average fit” with an hourglass silhouette, but is available with a-line, straight, and tapered silhouettes as well. It can be made in all of CustomFit’s fit choices for men, women, or children.
Your own customized version of the Stonington pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. The design looks great at a variety of gauges.
I used Harrisville WATERshed, in the color “Monarch”, for this design.
WATERshed’s lightness and body contribute to an incredibly wearable finished product, and I highly recommend it for this sweater.

(If you’re using anything else, I strongly recommend Hannah Fettig’s excellent app Stashbot for estimating your yardage needs.)
