Take Wing

$12.50

“Take Wing” is an adult-sized riff on the “Birdie” child-sized cardigan from my book “You Can Knit That”, and was designed for the entire Lorna's Laces hand-dyed yarn line. I've shown samples here in two of their yarn bases, Shepherd Worsted and Sportmate, both in the color “Painted Sunset”. But the small-scale slip stitch texture will work beautifully with any of their yarns, in any of their colors.

The silhouette itself is a simple V-neck cardigan, but it's made more sophisticated by an allover Slip Stitch Texture – leaning one way on one half of the cardigan, and the other way on the other. The two slants form a subtle “V” on the back and front of the garment. Since this pattern is worked allover, please swatch in the slip stitch pattern – instructions may be found here.

Please note that Take Wing is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you'll receive a credit for a custom version of Take Wing and instructions on how to create it.

“Take Wing” is an adult-sized riff on the “Birdie” child-sized cardigan from my book “You Can Knit That”, and was designed for the entire Lorna’s Laces hand-dyed yarn line. I’ve shown samples here in two of their yarn bases, Shepherd Worsted and Sportmate, both in the color “Painted Sunset”. But the small-scale slip stitch texture will work beautifully with any of their yarns, in any of their colors.

The silhouette itself is a simple V-neck cardigan, but it’s made more sophisticated by an allover Slip Stitch Texture – leaning one way on one half of the cardigan, and the other way on the other. The two slants form a subtle “V” on the back and front of the garment. Since this pattern is worked allover, please swatch in the slip stitch pattern – instructions may be found here.

I’ve shown the sweater with a straight shape here, but you can also make Take Wing in a-line and tapered silhouettes; please note that you’ll have to shape in stitch pattern (at the edges of your work) for those silhouettes.

Sizing

Take Wing is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Beth in a “women’s close fit” and on Amy in a “women’s average fit”, both with an straight silhouette. It is available with an a-line or tapered silhouette, and other fits as well. The cardigan makes a great menswear or child’s sweater as well.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Take Wing pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. This stitch pattern looks good at nearly any gauge.

Materials

Amy’s sample is shown in Lorna’s Laces Sportmate; Beth’s in Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted, both in the color “Painted Sunset”.
