The Trimmings turtleneck is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you’ll receive a credit for a custom version of Trimmings and instructions on how to create it.
I designed Trimmings several years ago as a flexible pullover with many possibilities. The kicky stripes make the perfect edging on a simple, trim silhouette, and the traditional PDF was written to offer either of two sleeve options, paired with either of two necklines, combined with either of two hem heights. Now, you’ve got even more flexibility with CustomFit. Start either with this turtleneck or the cowl version, and choose whatever sweater length, silhouette, construction, and sleeve length you like. CustomFit will generate the pattern to your specific gauge and fit choices.
The contrasting color in the stripes will use only a small amount of yarn, and is a fun chance to use up handspun, a favorite sock yarn, or just some of those brightly-colored bits of awesomeness you have floating about. The sweater will work in any weight yarn from fingering through bulky, though please note that the heavier the yarn, the thicker the neckline will feel.
The Trimmings Turtleneck is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Naomi in an “hourglass average fit” with an hourglass silhouette, but is available with a-line, straight, and tapered silhouettes as well. It can be made in all of CustomFit’s fit choices for men, women, or children. It’s also available in both set-in sleeve and drop shoulder constructions.
Your own customized version of the Trimmings turtleneck pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. The design looks great at a variety of gauges.
I used Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light for this sample, in colors 4275 (MC) and 4277 (CC). I love the way the cowl looks with the bit of drape it gets from the alpaca.
To make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 7 (8, 8, 9, 9, 10, 11, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15) hanks of MC and 1 hank CC in the original yarn.
For other yarns, CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.
The Trimmings Turtleneck is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in or modified drop shoulder sleeves.
