Turks & Caicos

$12.50

Mrs. Crosby loves to play, and the more exotic the location the better. This sweet transitional sweater will keep you comfortable anywhere in the world, from the Mediterranean to lovely Turks & Caicos. The peek-a-boo lace panel at the bust is interesting without baring a lot of skin, and offers a fun change for the knitter as well. Simple Garter stitch trim ensures that all eyes are on the knitter and the yarn, rather than the sweater design (which is as it should be).

Turks & Caicos is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you'll receive a credit for a custom version of Turks & Caicos and instructions on how to create it.

Sizing

Turks & Caicos is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Beth in an “hourglass close fit” with an hourglass silhouette, but is available with a straight silhouette and other fits as well. (I’d recommend going no looser than a relaxed fit, though – if the sweater is too large through your shoulders, the lace will droop.)

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Turks & Caicos pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. I recommend something at a DK-weight or lighter for this design, to preserve the delicacy of the lace. (I used a sport-weight yarn for the sample.)

Materials

I used Mrs. Crosby Loves to Play Hat Box for this sample, in the color “Hollywood Cerise”. Hat Box in particular is one of my all-time favorite yarns: It’s light, has a slight sheen and great drape, and offers incredible stitch definition and a great knitting experience. It comes in a selection of very fun colors, and I highly recommend it for this sweater.

To make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 3 (4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7) hanks of the original yarn.

(If you’re using anything else, I strongly recommend Hannah Fettig’s excellent app Stashbot for estimating your yardage needs.)

Construction

Turks & Caicos is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in sleeves.
