Vendavel

$9.99

Looking for a stylish update to a classic crew-neck cardigan? Try this version, from my “CustomFit Basics” collection. While it’s shown here on my lovely goddaughter Brenna, it works equally well for grownups. It’s a simple cardigan with a little flair from garter stitch trims instead of ribbing – all fairly substantial on a child, but thin and trim on an adult: The hem has 1.5” (4 cm) of Garter, the sleeves 2.5” (6.5 cm), and the button band is just 1.25” (3 cm).

The Vendavel cardigan is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you’ll receive a credit for a custom version of Vendavel and instructions on how to create it. It looks great at a variety of gauges, and can be made in any of CustomFit’s constructions, silhouettes and fits.

Sizing

Vendavel is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Brenna in an “child’s close fit” with a straight silhouette, but is available in both set-in sleeve and modified drop-shoulder constructions with a-line, hourglass, and tapered silhouettes as well. It can be made in all of CustomFit’s fit choices for men, women, or children.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Vendavel pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. The design looks great at a variety of gauges.

Materials

I used Berroco Vintage for this sample, in the color 5107 “Cracked Pepper”. Vintage is hard-wearing, and comes in a ton of colors and weights – it makes a great choice for a classic sweater.

I used the worsted version of Vintage, at a gauge of 20 stitches and 28 rows to 4” (10 cm). To make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 5 (5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10, 10, 11) hanks of the original yarn.

For other yarns, CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.

Construction

Vendavel is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in or modified drop-shoulder sleeves.
