Wintry Mix

Description

The Wintry Mix pullover is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you’ll receive a credit for a custom version of Wintry Mix and instructions on how to create it.

I designed Wintry Mix several years ago as a cozy, comfortable canvas for a soft, tweedy yarn. Since then, I’ve seen versions in so many different lovely yarns that I built the design into CustomFit – so now, you can make your own Wintry Mix in whatever you like. It’s a fairly simple pullover with garter stitch trims, and an unusual neck trim.

This design features an unusual wide collar/cowl blend that’s formed by working the neck stitches on progressively larger needles, until quite a floppy fabric is achieved; bind off loosely and instead of a tall, snuggly cowl you’ll get a gorgeous portrait collar. You will need needles in sizes one, two, and three needle sizes larger than your main needle size to make this neckline.

Sizing

Wintry Mix is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Amy in an “hourglass average fit” with an hourglass silhouette, but is available with a straight silhouette and other fits as well.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Wintry Mix pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. The design looks great at a variety of gauges.

Materials

I used Berroco Blackstone Tweed, now discontinued, for this sample.

To determine yardage for your own size and yarn gauge, I strongly recommend Hannah Fettig’s excellent app Stashbot.

Construction

Wintry Mix is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in sleeves.
