Alight is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern via my CustomFit custom pattern generator. Upon purchase, you’ll receive a credit for a custom version of Alight and instructions on how to create it.
Alight is inspired by, and designed for, my best friend Beth. Among the many things I love about her, Beth is one of the strongest women I know. Sure of herself and confident, she meets challenges head-on and with no mincing around. For her birthday, I wanted to design a sweater that properly captured her bold personality and elegant, clean style.
Alight is a worn-open cardigan with slightly belled sleeves, worked in pieces from the bottom up with set-in sleeves. A bold candle-flame stitch motif adorns each front, and a mandarin-style collar is worked in seed stitch. I’ve shown it here in a light worsted gauge, and recommend a similar-weight yarn for yours.
Alight is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Beth in an “hourglass average fit” with an hourglass silhouette, but is available with a straight silhouette and other fits as well.
Your own customized version of the Alight pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. I recommend something in the vicinity of a DK or light worsted, though. And please knit your yarn firmly for stability with this design.
I used The Plucky Knitter’s Sweater, which has now been discontinued, for the sample shown. Her worsted-weight “Trusty” would make a good substitute – I used the color “Barn Door”.
To make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 1217 (1349, 1447, 1553, 1673, 1796, 1920, 2068, 2313, 2517) yds/1113 (1234, 1323, 1421, 1531, 1643, 1757, 1892, 2116, 2303) m of a light-worsted yarn for this design.
Alight is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in sleeves.
