Basic V-neck Cardigan, Craftsy Modifications Class

A basic V-neck cardigan belongs in everyone’s wardrobe. They’re easy to wear, work with anyone’s style, and make great pieces for men, women, and kids alike. This version features a generously-deep V, thick ribbed trim, and simple shaping. I created it for my Craftsy class, “Sweater Modifications for a Custom Fit”. While the class will teach you how to make all of the modifications by hand, CustomFit can generate this super-classic sweater pattern specifically for your own gauge and measurements. No math required.

It’s worked in pieces from the bottom up, with set-in sleeves or CustomFit’s new modified drop shoulder sleeves. It’s available in all of CustomFit’s many fits and silhouettes, for men, women, and children.

Sizing

The Basic V-neck Cardigan is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Milly in a set-in sleeve construction, an “hourglass oversized fit”, and hourglass silhouette. It’s available in all of CustomFit’s other constructions, fits and silhouettes as well.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Basic V-neck Cardigan pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. This design looks great in any yarn.

Materials

I used Valley Yarns Peru for this sample, in the color “Fawn”.

To make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 8 (8, 9, 10, 10, 11, 12, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) balls of Peru for this design.

For other yarns, CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.

Construction

This cardigan is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in or modified drop shoulder sleeves.
