Bridgefield

Description

Bridgefield is an easy-going pullover that combines an unspeakably luscious yarn with a relaxed silhouette and interesting texture. The deep V-neckline, mid-hip length, and long sleeves make this sweater a joy to wear, and the Double Moss Stitch front is fun to knit as well.

I worked the sample in a worsted-weight blend of wool, cashmere, and silk: Spirit Trail Fiberworks’ Verdande, in color “Wild Blueberries”. The sheen and softness of the yarn, along with its drape, make it a beautiful match for this comfy, day-in-and-day-out sweater. I highly recommend it.

Bridgefield is worked from the bottom up in pieces for stability, with either set-in sleeves as shown here or in CustomFit’s drop shoulder construction. The back and sleeves of this sweater are Stockinette, and the front is worked in Double Moss Stitch. 2×2 ribbing trims all edges. Please swatch in both Stockinette and Double Moss Stitch – your gauge should be the same in both stitch patterns. (Switch needles for Double Moss if necessary to match Stockinette gauge.)

Sizing

Bridgefield is available as a custom-gauge, custom-size pattern for the yarn and measurements of your choice via CustomFit. It’s shown here on Amy in a set in sleeve construction with an “hourglass average fit”, and an hourglass silhouette. It’s also available with tapered, a-line, and straight silhouettes, the drop shoulder construction, and other fits as well.

Gauge

Your own customized version of the Bridgefield pattern will be written to your gauge, whatever it may be. This sample is shown in a worsted-weight, but the design looks great at other gauges as well.

Materials

I used Spirit Trail Fiberworks’ Verdande, in color “Wild Blueberries”, for the sample shown. Her other bases of this fibre content – Sunna (fingering weight), and Birte (DK weight) – would make excellent substitutions.

To make a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ / 76 (81.5, 86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 101.5, 106.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm sweater, you’ll need approximately 5 (5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9) hanks of Verdande.

For other yarns, CustomFit will give you a yardage estimate before you finalize a custom pattern, but you can also use Hannah Fettig’s Stashbot app or pamphlet to estimate yarn requirements when purchasing yarn.

Construction

Bridgefield is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed, with set-in sleeves or modified drop shoulder sleeves.
